shasta bell intermediate calligraphy workshop

I had the privilege of attending and capturing the Shasta Bell Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop in the winter (see the images HERE). It was so fantastic, that I knew I needed to continue in my calligraphy learning! She asked if I wanted to attend and capture her Intermediate Workshop as well. And yet again – I was in awe!

The workshop was held in her new and GORGEOUS studio in Northeast Minneapolis, the Fisk Collab. When I say gorgeous – I am not stretching it. The studio is amazing! White everywhere. Which is my absolute favorite – the absence of color! And the LIGHT. As a photographer, the light is of the utmost importance. So when I walked in for the first time, my jaw dropped. It is so dreamy.

Not only did I get to photograph a workshop in such an amazing space, I got to capture such lovely people. Shasta and her workshop attendees are so sweet. Shasta’s spirit makes her a natural born teacher. She is so open and honest about her craft and business – it is so refreshing!

My main goal in taking her workshops, was to be able to be able to somewhat nicely write on our chalkboards and chalkboard wall at home. I have the worst handwriting. It is so inconsistent. Shasta shared a little secret; her everyday handwriting isn’t pretty either!

Calligraphy is not for the faint of heart! It is a slow and methodical practice. But if you can get into a good groove, it can be therapeutic. And the new, more modern calligraphy is so whimsical and beautiful, that you don’t need to worry so much about consistency.
